Gaushala

About Gaushala

Gaushala is building a digital home for India's cow and dairy economy, one place where gaushalas, farmers, veterinarians, suppliers, protectors and buyers can find each other and work together. It starts with a public census of every gaushala in the country.

Our vision

Cows sustain millions of families in India, through milk, farming, fuel and fertiliser. Yet the work around them is scattered. A gaushala struggles to find a vet in time, a farmer cannot reach buyers beyond the village, and a cow injured on the road often has no one to call. We want to bring that whole economy online: care, trade, feed, insurance and protection, each built around the people who already do the work. When gaushalas thrive, so do the cows in their care.

Where we are today

  • Live

The gaushala census: a public directory and map of gaushalas, with a count of the herd in each one.

  • Free

Listing a gaushala, reporting its herd and browsing the census cost nothing.

  • 23

Languages the app speaks: English and the 22 languages of India's Eighth Schedule.

  • 94

Cow and buffalo breeds a herd can be recorded under, 82 of them native to India.

Support a gaushala

In development

Built one piece at a time

The census comes first, because every other service needs to know where the gaushalas are and what they hold. The rest is being built on top of it.
